高分子糖タンパク質で、細胞表面、細胞外液、結合式、基底膜にある。他の細胞外マトリックスタンパク質や細胞のリガンド（コラーゲン、フィブリン、インテグリンなど）と相互作用する。細胞の接着、移動に関与する。可溶化と細胞型二つの型がある。
間質に存在する細胞接着分子の代表例。分子量22〜25万のジスルフィド二量体。フィブリン、ヘパリン欠行領域、コラーゲン結合領域、細胞表面／ヘパリン結合領域に分かれる。
細胞を接着s、進展させる上で重要。
Fibronectin-1 belongs to a family of high molecular weight glycoproteins that are present on cell surfaces, in extracellular fluids, connective tissues, and basement membranes. Fibronectins interact with other extracellular matrix proteins and cellular ligands, such as collagen, fibrin, and integrins. Fibronectins are involved in adhesive and migratory processes of cells. Two major forms of fibronectin exist: a plasma soluble form and a cellular form (Muro et al., 2003).
